The Story of Clonwilliam

Clonwilliam House is the private home of Richard and Miriam Clune and their four boys. Set dramatically atop the wooded hills that surround the Vale of Avoca near Woodenbridge in County Wicklow, Ireland, Clonwilliam has been home to Richard’s family since the 1650’s.

Although there has been a house peering out from this majestic spot for over 350 years, the bones of the current house date from the 19th century, since which time it has undergone a number of transformations. The result is an exquisite blend of old and new, combining 21st century luxury with the loveliness of a Georgian backdrop.

The setting of Clonwilliam is a particularly attractive one, with its mature grounds hosting an abundance of wildlife and the picturesque Goldmines river running through it. It is undoubtedly true that the words of the poet Thomas Moore, written while sojourning in Avoca, resonate for all those who visit this valley:

There is not in this wide world a valley so sweet
As that vale in whose bosom the bright waters meet.

Clonwilliam began hosting a limited number of private celebrations in 2013. Having captured the hearts of family for generations, Clonwilliam quickly won the hearts and fired the imagination of people from all over the world. Today, it remains completely private, utterly hidden away from the world, known only to our new extended family of guests, and as special as it has always been.
